Review: Paula's Choice Recovery Softening Cream Cleanser & Recovery Enriched Calming Toner

I thought that I would do a 2 for 1 review today, since both of these products are from the same line. I've been going through a lot of Paula's Choice products in the past few months, and some of them are definitely stand outs that I use in my routine everyday. Others are kind of meh, but in the sense that they don't do much, not in the sense that they make me break out or anything. And that's one of the reasons I really like Paula's Choice. Nothing is tragic. It's all either very good or average. And there are always some discount codes floating around. Speaking of which, feel free to use my referral link to get $10 off your first order. Just click here

Post Christmas Sale Haul/ Presents/ Amazon Finds

I decided to combine several things into today's post because I seem to have accumulated a lot of stuff. Which is the story of my life. But some of this stuff is pretty awesome and I wanted to share. My parents and I did not go all out on Christmas presents this year, but we do like to wander around to stores before and after. Which is almost more fun, because it extends the festivities. And here's what we found.

October 2014 Empties

Wohoo. It's empties time. I haven't done one of these in a while, so I have accumulated quite a bit of used up products. And I have lots of thoughts to share. Okay. More like a moderate amount. But still.

August 2014 Birchbox

I'm not sure if you guys know, but I have cancelled all of my beauty box subscriptions except for Birchbox. To put it bluntly, I'm tired of getting crap I don't need. But I did keep Birchbox because I like the points system and it still satisfies my craving for little travel goodies. Here's what was in this month's box.

Review: Influenster Vitality Vox Box*

Wohooo! I qualified for another Influenster Vox Box. This time it was Vitality themed. I'm still not so sure what that means, but I'm always down for free stuff.

Review: Lorac Skinny Nude Palette

I really wasn't going to buy this palette, but then on the same day I saw like 3 different people review it and say it was awesome. And then once it started selling out everywhere, I just had to have it. I don't even know why. So here's a review of the $15 Skinny Nude Palette from Lorac.

How to get the most out of your travel liquids bag.

One of the main reasons I dislike flying domestically in the US is that I don't get food. Another reason is that airlines charge to check a bag, and therefore I'm forced to travel with a carry-on. Because let's be honest, I would rather spend that money on better things that checking bags. So, I have experimented a lot with how to get the most liquids into your little quart sized bag. And this is what I came up with.

Haul: Surprise Packages

In my opinion, surprise packages are awesome, but surprise packages with makeup are the best thing ever. My boyfriend recently found my Sephora wish list (I sent it to him sshhhh) and decided to send me some goodies.

Review: General Pencil Company The Masters Brush Cleaner and Preserver (AKA The Best Cleanser Ever)

I'm not that easily impressed by cleansers. Usually I use dish soap and olive oil, and it works just fine. But this product really knocked my brush cleaning socks off, and here's why.

Shoes, Shoes Shoes. (Shoe Haul Spring/Summer 2014)

I decided to do something a little bit different today and show a shoe haul. My boyfriend says as a joke that I'm obsessed with cats, shoes and makeup. He's probably right. So here's the other side (the darker side?) of my obsession. I will try to link to places where you can find these shoes, but I tend to buy a lot of them on clearance so they might not be around anymore. Also, I got all of these other the last 3-4 months. Not like yesterday or anything. That would be a bit much.

July 2014 Favourites and Unfavourites (Including Benefit's Push Up Liner)

I would say that July seems to have flown by, but it hasn't considering I'm taking summer classes and basically spending all my time writing papers and reading. BUT I do have some favorites to share. And some unfavourites, including the spawn of satan, otherwise known as Benefit's Push Up Liner.

July 2014 Empties

I'm usually pretty bad about using stuff up, but summer seems to speed everything up because I use so much sunscreen, body wash and lotion. Gotta keep my skin looking nice. Anyway, here's what  used up this month.

Review: Bioderma MAX Ultra-fluide SPF 50+/ UVA 40

As you guys know, I love me some sunscreen. I'm always looking for the next best sunscreen that is not irritating to sensitive skin, has a high SPF and has high UVA protection. And spoiler alert, this product is a very solid choice. It's not too easy to get, but maybe I'll convince you that it's worth trying.

My Blush Collection

I for one really love swatches. Comparing swatches on google images is probably a favorite pastime of mine. So I decided I would swatch my blush collection and give little mini reviews. I don't have too many blushes because my skin is very fair and they all kind of look the same when you only add a tiny amount. But here is what I do have and use on a regular basis.

July 2014 Birchbox

It's Birchbox time! My Birchbox got to me a little later this month than the last one, but it's probably because of the holidays. This month, Birchbox partnered with Women's health. And let's see what was inside!

Haul: Sephora, Paula's Choice, Amazon and Walgreens.

Whenever all of my packages come on the same day, I feel like the mailman is judging me pretty hard. But I basically ordered all of these things over the last week and a half. I just couldn't resist sales and some Sephora points perks.

June 2014 Favourites

June was a busy month for me (biochemistry finals man), but I still managed to try out quite a few new products and use some old favorites. And here's what really impressed me.

Review: Paula's Choice Resist C15 Super Booster

Originally, I wanted  to get this review up once I have had the product for longer, but I've just been really loving this serum and there are some sweet deals for Paula's Choice right now.

As always, if you use a referral code, you will get $10 off your first order with Paula's Choice. The first time I used someone's, I basically got a bunch of samples and decided what to get full sizes of. If you're interested, my code is here.

Then, Paula's Choice currently has 25% off of all of their cleansers and toners. I just bought the Skin Recovery toner, so I can't personally recommend any yet.

And there's a code, PRCLEAR20 floating around that gives you 20% off and free shipping on your order.

So if you combine all of those things, you can get some good deals.

But now onto the review portion.

June 2014 Glossybox Review

I don't think that any beauty box will ever come close to the May Glossybox, so it's hard to compare this month's box to last months. However, I quite liked the June box. While the value was not too high, I will definitely use most of the products.

Glossybox is a more luxury product beauty box that ships you 5 samples or full sized products a month for $21. And they have my favorite packaging out of any beauty box. If you're interested, you can check it out by clicking here, using my referral link.

June 2014 Birchbox vs. Ipsy

Since I have recently started subscribing to Birchbox, I thought it might be fun to do a post comparing both of them.  They are both makeup subscription boxes that send you boxes/bags monthly filled with deluxe sized samples and full sized products. If you want to check out Ipsy, my referral link is here. And if you are interested in Birchbox, my referral link is here.

Without further ado, here is what was in this month's bags.

I love buying luxury cosmetics. The packaging, the colours, the experience, oh my. But, you don't' necessarily have to spend big bucks to get great stuff. Here are some of my recent favorites that you can get for under $5.

Review: Mario Badescu Drying Lotion

I really wanted to like this product. It has stellar reviews on nearly every single site. A lot of youtube gurus recommend it. I've had salespeople recommend it to me. And I thought it was going to be the greatest acne spot treatment ever. And I was pretty disappointed.

What I've Been Up To

So. I have not been blogging too much because even though it's summer, I'm taking some extra classes. Therefore, I thought I would do a little update post. Here is a bouquet that my boyfriend got me. I tried the trick of putting sugar and vodka in the water, and these flowers lasted 2 weeks. I'm not even kidding. Which is awesome. Usually I feel so sad if my flowers die in a couple of days.

My Current Skincare Routine

I can't remember if I have ever done a skincare post, but I have discovered some very good products recently and wanted to share. I have acne prone, combo skin that's on the drier side. It's also very sensitive. So definitely keep that in mind when I share my thoughts on products.

April/May: Hits and Misses

I never seem to be able to do monthly favorites, so I'll just call this a hybrid of April and May. I also decided to add in some products I really didn't like, because I seem to have accumulated a lot of those too.

Review: Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette

I got this palette with my PopSugar box but I thought I would do a review because it's also sold on its own. I had never tried Too Faced shadows before, and I was pleasantly surprised with this palette. I like the packaging a lot, and the actual shadows are nice too, with a good selection of colours.

What I Carry In My Travel Makeup Bag

I'm going to Florida for a week to visit my mom, and I decided to do a little post about the makeup that I'm bringing with me. Previously, I used to always bring just mostly samples and small sized products, but I got tired of that, so I started bringing my usual staples.

Haul: Amazon and Walmart

I've repurchased a couple of essentials on Amazon, and tried out some new things. Here is my little bitty haul.

Saturday Roundup: I eat a lot.

Wheeee. It's finally warm outside. And by warm I mean about 60 degrees. Either way, I finally get to wear all of my spring clothes. Which is pretty exciting.

March/April Empties

I don't think this needs too much of an introduction. Here's what I finished recently.

Birthday Haul: Beauty

So, I know I have not posted in a while and I'm sorry about that. But I've been busy trying to figure out my life and finish up the semester. And somewhere along all that, I had my 21ist birthday! Of course, I gifted some stuff to myself, because that's how I roll. And I got some nice presents from friends that I want to share.

Modcloth Stylish Surprise

Every once in a while, especially at the end of a season, Modcloth has what they call "stylish surprise". For $10, they will send you a random piece of clothing or pair of shoes in your selected size. Other than that, it's completely random. Could be a $200 dress or a $35 pair of shoes. It's up to fate.

Of course, I had to jump on this wagon. Because I love being surprised. But in the end, it didn't work out for me because I forgot that Modcloth is totally not my style. So it's my own fault. Either way, here's what I got. I bought both the clothes version and shoe version for $24 shipping included.

Friday Roundup: Macarons Edition

Yesterday, my boyfriend and I had a really nice time at this tea house. We had some strawberry lavender mint tea and tried all of the macarons they sold. My favourite was the white chocolate lavender (the purple one). It was a really cute experience.

Review: Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara*

So, I received this mascara from Influenster, for being a badge runner up. I literally have no idea what that means. But free makeup is free makeup, so I decided to do a lithe review of what they sent me. As you guys probably know, my favorite mascara is the They're Real by Benefit. But it seems unfair to compare a drugstore mascara to a more mid end one. So I decided to go a little bit easier on it. I also feel like I have been pretty negative in reviews lately so I really tried to be more fair. But as you'll see, that proved to be hard.

Also, please enjoy my more artsy mascara photos. I was working with some strange lighting.

Target Beauty Box March 2014

A little while ago, Target released one of their beauty boxes for $5 including free shipping. I'm usually not into drugstore brand beauty boxes, but this seemed like such a nice deal that I had to get it. Definitely be on the lookout for these as Target releases them periodically.

March Beauty Favourites

I was going to call this February favorites, but then I realized that was two weeks ago. Whoops. This month I don't have too many things to share, just 3 skin products and 1 hair oil that I've been using nearly every day.

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

March Ipsy

I was actually very pleased with Ipsy this month. Here is what was in my bag.

In case you're looking for a cheap ($10) beauty subscription with lots of makeup, check it out here.

March Pop Sugar

So, I have to mention that this is my last Pop Sugar box. I ordered the 3 month subscription because I got a very good deal on it (one box free), and I was just not impressed enough to keep my subscription going. However, I'll see what's in next month's box, and maybe if it's good I'll order it again. Pop Sugar doesn't have a wait list, so if the boxes are not sold out, you can definitely get one. They are $39.95 a month and here is what was in the March box.

February Glossybox

Glossybox is my favorite beauty box, and I was really excited to get this months. Here is what was inside.

Monday Roundup: I'm Cold Edition.

It's been really freezing here this winter. All those polar vortexes and whatnot. But in addition to being really cold, here's what I've been up to.

Haul: Embarking on New Shaving Adventures

I am bad at shaving. I can't get my hairs short enough. I get lumps and bumps and ingrown hairs. And I have zero patience for it as an activity. I have tried all sorts of razors, shaving creams and techniques. And most recently, I was following a routine that a stripper posted on reddit. If she's not an authority on shaving, I don't know who is. Anyway, I still wasn't getting the results I wanted.

Then I found a subreddit called /r/wickededge. It's mostly a community of guys (and a few girls) who really love shaving with old school safety razors. They also have a ton of info on different shaving balms, creams and potions. So I decided to give their routine a try. But first I needed to get all of the essentials they recommend.

Top 5 Favourite Oils

I fully understand that having a top oils post is weird. But I really like different oils. So much that I probably belong in over-moisturizers anonymous.

However, I feel like there has really been a huge surge in using oils for beauty purposes. I've seen oodles of videos/posts on oil cleansing method, hair oils, oil massages and beauty oils. Even Sephora now has a section for beauty oils, which I'm pretty sure they didn't have in the past. From my perspective, the Josie Maran Argan Oil seemed to be the one that started popping up on youtube and blogs, and then the craze began.

So without further ado, here are my favorite oils that I use on a daily basis, and where I buy them.

February Pop Sugar Must Have Box

Overall, I wasn't too impressed with this month. All I seem to be getting are things that I would regift to other people, but few products I would want to keep. Pop Sugar is a lifestyle box, where for $40 a month, they send you the best beauty, home, fashion and miscellaneous things from that month. Here's what I got.

Last Minute Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

Ever since I was little, my mom and I have always celebrated Valentine's Day. Mostly because it's a holiday that revolves around chocolate. And because giving each other makeup and other goodies is always fun. And here are some of my ideas for special friends that you might want to celebrate with, or hints for your significant others.

Perfect Palette Tag

I know that this tag has been floating around youtube and blogs for a while now. But I've finally decided to do it. I don't have too many palettes to choose from like some people, but I had a lot of fun picking ones out.

Review: Malin + Goetz Detox Face Mask

I got this mask with my January Pop Sugar Box and at first I was a little skeptical to try it. Because in my mind detox/foaming/deep clean = dry skin. But that is totally not the case with this mask, and I'm really happy I got it because otherwise I would have never purchased this.

January Favourites

January really flew by. Here's all the products I enjoyed using last month.
